John Buck, formerly of Morgan Stanley, Pleads Guilty to Securities Fraud

Have you lost money with financial advisor John H. Buck of Boston, Massachusetts?  We are continuing to look into allegations made by against John H. Buck III. Buck was previously the subject of a complaint by FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority).  FINRA barred Buck from the securities industry after he failed to respond to an investigation.  FINRA was investigating Buck after he was terminated by his brokerage firm, Morgan Stanley, for failing to timely and completely disclose his involvement in private securities transactions.

In January 2019, Buck agreed to plead guilty to securities fraud.  Prosecutors are seeking a 78-month prison sentence against Buck.  While prosecutors are likely to order Buck to pay restitution, it is highly unlikely that Buck will pay anything meaningful back to his victims.  Investors will need to look at other potential sources of recovery, like Morgan Stanley, to try to recover their losses.

John Buck was a financial advisor and registered representative of Morgan Stanley from May 2010 to February 2018.   He worked at a branch office in Boston, Massachusetts.  Buck was terminated by Morgan Stanley.  Buck’s BrokerCheck report also discloses that he was an investor in Gemini Partners, a venture fund.

Brokerage firms like Morgan Stanley have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm.  Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.  When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
