John Maccoll of UBS Financial Services, Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison

Have you lost money with financial advisor John Maccoll of Birmingham and Rochester Hills, Michigan? Maccoll was recently sentenced to serve nine years in prison for stealing close to $3.5 million.

Maccoll was also previously the subject of an action by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against John C. Maccoll. In August 2018, the SEC alleged that Maccoll defrauded his customers out of nearly $4 million with a long-running investment scheme. Maccoll induced customers to invest in a purportedly private investment fund, but instead, he used the funds for personal expenses. In December 2018, the SEC barred Maccoll from the securities industry for this conduct.

John Maccoll was a financial advisor and registered representative of UBS Financial Services from 2006 to March 2018. He worked at a branch office in Birmingham, Michigan and lives in Rochester Hills. Maccoll has also been the subject of 14 customer complaints.

Brokerage firms like UBS Financial Services have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.
