Have you lost money with financial advisor Thomas C. Cleary from Washington DC? We are looking into allegations made by FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) against Thomas Cleary. Cleary was being investigated regarding allegations that he was named a beneficiary of a customer’s estate but took steps to hide that from his former brokerage firm, UBS Financial Services. To settle these allegations Cleary agreed to a twelve month suspension and a $10,000 fine.
Thomas Cleary was a registered representative and financial advisor with UBS Financial Services from 2011 to February 2019. Cleary was also with Purshe Kaplan Sterling from October 2019 to June 2021. He worked out of branch offices in Washington DC. Cleary was also terminated by RBC Capital Markets.
Broker-dealers like UBS Financial Services have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm, including investments sold by their registered representatives. Broker-dealers also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations. When broker-dealers fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
