Shimshon Plotkin, with Independent Financial Group, Subject of Ten Complaints

Shimshon “Shim” Plotkin had been a representative of Independent Financial Group from October 2011 to the present, and he also runs Plotkin Financial Advisors in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  Plotkin has been the subject of ten customer complaints, one of which was filed in January 2023.  The most recent complaint alleges that Plotkin made unsuitable investment recommendations to a customer, now deceased, and the beneficiary of the estate is making claims against Independent Financial Group.  The investments at issue are private placements or limited partnerships, according to BrokerCheck.

As a licensed stockbroker, Shim Plotkin must follow FINRA rules, including FINRA’s suitability rule, Rule 2111.  Firms like Independent Financial Group also are required to adequately monitor the conduct of their advisors.  Violations of these rules can lead to financial liability for the broker or firm.
