Betsy Marcom and Next Financial Group

Have you lost money with financial advisor Betsy Marcom of Georgetown, Texas?  We are investigating allegations made by FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, against Betsy Marcom. FINRA alleged that Marcom made a number of unsuitable investment recommendations to one of her clients, a church.

Marcom was alleged to have recommended that the church invest in a number of non-investment-grade bonds.  These are sometimes referred to as “junk” or “high-yield” bonds.  The recommendation led to losses of over $135,000 with the church.  Marcom was also alleged to have made an unsuitable recommendation to sell some bonds less than three months to maturity, which caused the church to miss out on additional interest payments.  To settle these allegations, Betsy Marcom agreed to pay a $15,000 fine and a four-month suspension from the securities industry.

Betsy Marcom was a financial advisor and registered representative of Next Financial Group from February 2009 to November 2015.  She worked at a branch office in Georgetown, Texas.  Marcom is currently the subject of one customer complaint.

Brokerage firms like Next Financial Group have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm.  Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.  When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
