Losses with Aequitas Capital Management?

 

Have you invested with Aequitas Capital Management and Aequitas Investment Management, a Lake Oswego, Oregon-based investment firm?  Oregonlive.com recently reported that Aequitas Capital Management recently informed workers that it was going to lay-off dozens of employees.  It has had cash flow problems after it made significant investments in student debt from Corinthian Colleges.

 

In November 2015, Aequitas Capital Management informed investors that it would not redeem certain investments on time.  Investors who invested in Aequitas’ private investment funds may have suffered significant losses.  According to Aequitas Investment Management’s Form ADV that was filed with the SEC in July 2015, some of the private funds that Aequitas managed included the following:

 

  1. Aequitas Capital Opportunities Fund
  2. Aequitas Enchanced Income Fund
  3. Aequitas ETC Founders Fund
  4. Aequitas Hybrid Fund – Series A
  5. Aequitas Income Protection Fund
  6. Aequitas WRFF I

 

Financial advisors have a duty to perform adequate due diligence on an investment before recommending such to an investor.  If the advisor fails to do so, they could be liable for investor losses.  Moreover, an advisor must adequately disclose the risks of an investment before recommending the investment to their clients.
