FINANCIAL ADVISOR BRIAN MURPHY OF MOORESTOWN, NEW JERSEY ARRESTED
Have you lost money with financial advisor Brian Murphy of Moorestown, New Jersey? We are investigating allegations made by nj.com against Brian Patrick Murphy. Murphy, who did business as Murphy Financial Advisors, was alleged to have stolen nearly $900,000 from a client.
It was alleged that the client gave money to Brian Murphy in March 2011 to be invested in mutual funds, but that Murphy instead used the money on personal expenses, including a country club membership, a private school, a car dealer, and an attorney. When the client confronted Murphy, he allegedly tried to get the client to sign a document stating that the money given was a loan.
Brian Murphy was a financial advisor and registered representative of Signator Investors from July 2015 to July 2016. He also worked with MetLife Securities from December 2006 to December 2014. He worked at branch offices in Moorestown, New Jersey and Yardley, Pennsylvania. Murphy has been the subject of two customer complaints.
Brokerage firms like MetLife Securities and Signator Investors have the responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies. When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
