INVESTOR ALERT! John McKinstry of Moloney Securities in St. Louis, MO

Darren Goodrich from El Segundo, California

Have you lost money with financial advisor Darren Goodrich of El Segundo, California?  We are continuing our investigation into allegations made by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against Darren C. Goodrich.  Last week, the SEC announced that Goodrich agreed to admit wrongdoing in connection with a pump-and-dump scheme.  On February 8, 2017, the SEC permanently barred Darren Goodrich from the securities industry.

The SEC alleged that Darren Goodrich, along with other co-defendants, including Donald Toomer of Las Vegas, manipulated the securities of BioNeutral Group, Inc. (BONU), NXT Nutritional Holdings (NXTH), Clear-Lite Holdings (CLRH), and Mesa Energy Holdings (MSEH) from 2008 to 2011.  It was alleged that Goodrich helped artificially raise the price of these stocks while he was affiliated with BMA Securities.  After the price of these shares went up, Goodrich and the other defendants sold their shares, thereby manipulating the stock price and profiting from it.  This is often referred to as a “pump-and-dump” scheme.

Darren Goodrich was a financial advisor and registered representative of BMA Securities from 2001 to September 2015.  He worked at a branch office in El Segundo, California.  He was previously suspended for 30 days by FINRA in late 2014.  Goodrich also pleaded guilty to securities fraud in October 2016 in New York.

Brokerage firms like BMA Securities have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm.  Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.  When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
