David Del Rio, formerly with Suntrust Investment Services, Arrested and Charged with Theft

 

Have you lost money investing with David Del Rio of Lehigh Acres, Florida?  We are investigating allegations made against David Del Rio, a financial advisor that was formerly affiliated with Suntrust Investment Services.  According to the Sun Sentinel, Del Rio was arrested last week and charged with theft related to stealing nearly $900,000 from an elderly couple who are both now deceased.

 

Del Rio is accused of befriending the couple while working at a bank.  Del Rio became their financial advisor and swindled nearly $900,000 by withdrawing money from their accounts at Suntrust and Bank of America, and transferring the money to Del Rio’s accounts at Bank of America.  Del Rio is accused of using the money for personal expenses, including the purchase of an Audi A8, guns, cruise line vacations, and also paid off credit card debt.

 

David Del Rio was a financial advisor and representative of Suntrust Investment Services from March 2014 to August 2017.  He was also registered with LPL Financial from August 2017 to April 2018.

 

Brokerage firms like Suntrust Investment Services have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm.  Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.  When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
