In May 2018, Stark County indicted Hannan for theft, regarding allegations that he stole money, according to Canton Rep. The indictment included 55 counts, in which Hannan is accused of defrauding clients between 2014 and 2017.

In 2021, the SEC alleged that Horter Investment Management failed to adequately supervise Kimm Hannan. Horter allegedly did not adequately investigate Hannan before bringing him on as a representative in late 2014. This claim is still pending

Kimm Hannan was a financial advisor and registered representative of LPL Financial from January 2014 to November 2014. He also worked with Ameriprise Financial Services from 1994 to January 2014. He worked at branch offices in Canton and Akron, Ohio. Hannan was also associated with Hannan & Associates and Horter Investment Management from December 2014 to April 2017.

Firms like LPL Financial and Horter Investment Management have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Firms also must take steps to ensure that their advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.
