REIT Complaints Against MARK ROTHSTEIN of Independent Financial
Financial Advisor Mark Rothstein, with Independent Financial Group, Subject of REIT Complaint

Did you invest in REITs (real estate investment trusts) with Mark Rothstein, with Independent Financial Group, in El Segundo, California? According to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, a former customer of Mark Rothstein filed an arbitration claim against Independent Financial Group. The customer alleges that their account was overconcentrated in non-traded REITs, and that a variable annuity was not suitable. The customer alleges that they suffered losses between $100,000 and $500,000.
Mark Rothstein has been a financial advisor with Independent Financial Group in El Segundo, California from December 2013 to the present. He was also with Tri-star Financial, a registered investment advisory firm, from 2011 to March 2020. Rothstein has been the subject of five customer complaints, an $85,000 financial compromise, and he was also discharged by LPL Financial in 2010. Rothstein also worked from an office in Meridian, Idaho.
FINRA Rules provide that advisors must make suitable investment recommendations to investors. The factors to be considered include the customer’s net worth, age, income, risk tolerance, investment objectives, and others. Brokerage firms have obligations to monitor their advisor’s activities pursuant to FINRA Rule 3110. If the firm or advisor fail to abide by FINRA rules, they can be responsible for investor losses.
