INVESTOR ALERT! Eldridge Parks of Raymond James in Saginaw, MI

Matthew Cochran, formerly with Northwestern Mutual, Barred from Securities Industry

FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) barred Cochran from the securities industry regarding allegations that he engaged in private securities transactions and outside business activities without getting permission from his brokerage firm, Northwestern Mutual Investment Services.  Cochran was alleged by FINRA to have recommended that his clients to transfer their accounts to TD Ameritrade where Cochran’s unlicensed father made numerous trades, including options trading.

Matthew Cochran was a financial advisor and registered representative of Northwestern Mutual Investment Services from November 2011 to May 2017.  He worked at a branch office in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Northwestern Mutual terminated Cochran after these allegations surfaced.

Brokerage firms like Northwestern Mutual have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm.  Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.  When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
