Richard Hogan, Formerly with Merrill Lynch, Suspended

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

Are you a former client of financial advisor Richard Hogan, formerly with Merrill Lynch, in San Francisco, California?  We are looking into claims made by FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, against Richard A. Hogan.  In July 2022, FINRA suspended Hogan from the securities industry for 12 months, regarding allegations that he engaged in undisclosed outside business activities and private securities transactions.  In essence, Hogan was accused of selling investments in Hong Kong and Vietnam-based funds that were not approved by his former brokerage firm, Merrill Lynch.

Richard Hogan had been licensed with Merrill Lynch from 2002 to July 2020.  He was terminated by Merrill Lynch in July 2020 regarding this conduct.  Hogan worked at a San Francisco, California office.  Hogan was also the subject of one customer complaint, where it was alleged that he sold investments not approved by Merrill Lynch.

Advisors like Richard Hogan have an obligation to disclose to their brokerage firm all investments that the advisor sells to clients.  A failure to notify the firm of selling a particular investment is likely to result in a suspension or expulsion from the securities industry.  Moreover, firms like Merrill Lynch have to reasonably supervise advisors to prevent sales like these.
