Investor Losses in UBS Yield Enhancement Strategy
Have you lost money investing with the UBS Yield Enhancement Strategy? UBS created the “Yield Enhancement Strategy” or “YES”, which was an option-investing strategy that was marketed to investors as a safe way to enhance yield on investments. In particular, the strategy involved an “iron condor” options strategy which involves buying and selling call and put options on the S&P 500.
Unfortunately, the Yield Enhancement Strategy was not as safe as marketed. In volatile markets, the YES strategy did not work as planned, causing significant losses for many investors.
When brokerage firms sell investments to investors, the investment must be suitable for the investor, considering their risk tolerance, investment objectives, age, net worth, and other factors. Moreover, brokerage firms cannot misrepresent risks of an investment. If a brokerage firm like UBS fails in these respects, they can be liable to investors for losses.
