Bellevue Investment Adviser Chris Yoo Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison
A Bellevue, Washington investment adviser named Chris Yoo faced a federal judge on August 17, 2017 regarding charges of fraud against him. Yoo previously pleaded guilty to the charges on March 20, 2017 and appeared before Judge Thomas Zilly for a sentencing hearing on August 17. After hearing arguments from the government and defense attorneys, as well as from several victims, Judge Zilly imposed a nine-year (108 month) prison sentence for Chris Yoo.
The government and Yoo’s defense attorneys previously agreed to a guilty plea with a sentence of 80 months. Judge Zilly imposed a greater sentence than the agreed-upon sentence, citing the grievous nature of his crime, the length of the fraudulent scheme, and the apparent lack of remorse by Chris Yoo. Yoo previously ran an investment advisory firm in Bellevue called Summit Asset Strategies Wealth Management. His victims were from throughout Western Washington, including Bellevue, Kirkland, Seattle, Redmond, and as far as southwester Washington.
